My 2000 Mile USA Harvest Experience

MY 2000 Mile US Harvest Experience
After graduating from Harper Adams, I set myself the challenge of completing a full 2,000‑mile harvest across the United States, not as a tourist, but as part of a professional harvest crew. I joined Paplow Trucking and Harvesting on the Minnesota–Iowa border, one of the few crews that welcomes female operators, and spent six months travelling through eight states, harvesting 51,000 hectares of crops.
During the season, I operated two brand‑new combines, clocked over 1,000 hours, and hauled machinery more than 3,800 miles. One of my proudest moments was passing my Commercial Driver’s Licence and being trusted to move an oversize combine 800 miles across the country.
Life on the road was intense, long days, huge fields, extreme weather, and a pace of work far beyond anything in the UK. But it was also incredible. I learned new machinery skills, adapted to everything from droughts, tornados and snowstorms. I worked alongside an international crew who quickly felt like family.
Throughout the journey, I documented the experience on my Berkshire Farm Girl YouTube channel, uploading regular videos from the cab while also managing my pumpkin patch and café back home. The trip pushed me, taught me resilience, and gave me a whole new perspective on farming at scale.
It was one of the toughest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done and an experience I’ll never forget.
